Endorsed Candidates

The Business First PAC
Frequently Asked Questions - 2003

What is the mission of the PAC?

Our mission is to identify candidates for elected office in Warren County who are pro-business and provide them with the support necessary to help them win!

How will you identify which candidates are "pro-business?"

Our interview committee will invite all candidates in local races that the committee feels will have a direct impact on local businesses. The committee will base its endorsement decisions on these interviews and information gathered from research on the candidate's past positions and public statements regarding issues of concern to businesses. The committee will also take into consideration the candidate's philosophy, leadership capacity, relevant business experience, and dedication to expanding economic opportunity.

Is the PAC affiliated with any political party?

NO. The committee itself is comprised of a wide range of business leaders from a diverse set of local economic sectors. We have members who are registered to vote in a range of political parties in New York. Those who have volunteered to serve on the PAC do, however, have extensive experience in operating and managing successful businesses and creating jobs.

Is the PAC affiliated with any local business organizations, like the ARCC?

NO. While it is certainly true that many of the PAC's Board members may also be members of the Business Council or the ARCC or other business related organizations, the endorsement decisions to be made by the PAC are final and do not require the approval of any other local business organization. The ARCC has, however, agreed to allow the PAC to meet and hold its interviews in the Chamber's office. In addition, the President/CEO of the ARCC will serve as the ex-officio Treasurer and Secretary of the PAC, but is NOT allowed to vote on candidate endorsements.

Are contributions to the PAC tax deductible?

NO. Corporate or personal contributions as allowed by law are NOT tax deductible as either charitable contibutions or as business expenses.

What kind of support can the PAC offer to local candidates?

The Business First PAC may from time to time publicly endorse pro-business candidates and, thereby, encourage the election of said candidates. In some instances, the PAC may also make contributions to support the candidacies of pro-business candidates.

Why is the PAC focused solely on elections in Warren County?

The Business First PAC is just being formed in late-July of 2003. With this year's elections just a few months away, the PAC plans to initially focus its efforts on identifying and supporting pro-business candidates in Warren County first. The PAC hopes in subsequent election years to expand its service area to include other counties and communities within the lower Adirondack region of New York.
